I remember spending Christmas in South America as a little girl (I lived there for a year after my parents divorced) and seeing how differently they celebrated there. There was a lot of caroling and sparklers and less about shopping.

Our favorite tradition is Christmas Eve mass. When we come home from mass - Santa has come and we open our gifts instead of on Christmas day.

We always let the kids open their stockings and then make a big breakfast and take our time opening the rest of the presents. All our kids friends think we are mean for not letting them instantly rip open all their packages, but we think it is less hectic our way.

When we were little we'd decorate the tree on Christmas Eve afternoon, have dinner, get new PJs from our parents, then it was off to bed.
ReplyDeleteGoing to bed so early stunk but I loved the rest of it! :)

Our favorite holiday tradition is betting how many times the christmas tree will get knocked down and by which child! ::LOL:: All five of our kids have knocked it down at least once over the years but our youngest takes the number one place with five take downs... three this year and two last. Our most important tradition is and always will be laughter.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little, I was awake while my mom was putting presents out but I didn't get up to watch just in case it was Santa. I was afraid he would see me and then not leave the gifts. Just told my mom about that the other night.
